Recently one of our Wealth School students was frustrated because things were going his way. He was not doing the work that would get him what he said he wanted, which was to get his first cash flow property.
My first question to him was "are your sure you REALLY want that"? Sometimes we say that we want something but it’s not really a goal.
How do you know when it’s a real goal? Your commitment level tells the story. If you aren’t really taking the actions that you know you need to take, it might not really be a goal for you. That’s not always the case.
For example, you might really want to shed 20 pounds. You want to feel better, and look better. But when it comes to saying no to that late night snack habit, or the exercise routine you know that would really help you get more fit, it’s not always easy to make the right choice. Your level of commitment might not be high enough to tip the scales (no pun intended).
But, if all the sudden you have a heart attack and your doctor tells you that you are going to die if you don’t make some changes, suddently your committment level goes through the roof.
Our student insisted that getting his first cash flow property was a real goal. He said he was stuck on getting financing, and wasn’t sure what to do next.
Have you ever had a problem come up and you weren’t quite sure how to respond? Everyone has.
I worked with him on a few items that could move him forward in getting financing.
I also told him that he needs to have a strategy to use when he gets into that state of not being sure what to do. My suggestion was use one of the best self coaching techniques I know, which I’ll call "Act As If".
The next time you aren’t sure what to do, act as if you were the Donald. That right, Donald Trump. Ask yourself, "What would the Donald do if he were in my situation? How would the Donald respond?"
I guarantee he wouldn’t stay inactive for long. He’d weigh his option, make a quick decission, and do WHAT EVER IT TAKES to get the job done.
Next you aren’t sure what to do, ask yourself, "What would the Donald do?"
